This report is a summary of the ALR Meeting held on 09-August-2009

Meeting was called to order approximately 1315 hours.  Important to read this summary in its entirety, a number of key issues where discussed, voted on and accepted.  The length of this report is not to intended to bore anyone, it is presented in the hopes it will bring everyone current on what is happening with your ALR at American Legion Post 251.

We welcomed aboard new members, Michael and Sally Hendrick.  Michael’s email is: MichaelHendrick@bellsouth.net

A quick review of last months, July meeting minutes, where accepted and approved.

Well not confirmed, it is rumored that Airshow will take on a new road name, Sally? Looking for confirmation on this item.

Legacy Fund Poker Run:  Turn out was less than expected/anticipated.  The following is a break down of the funds collected:

            $240.00 Poker Hands

            $  30.00 T-shirt Sales

Don Lowery was high hand winner, with a flush.  The prize for high hand was $50.00, Don donated it back to Legacy Fund.

The low hand payout was $40.00, do not know at this time the name of the winner.

Therefore the Legacy Fund Poker Run netted $200.00.  We also need to acknowledge Bob Casey for supplying us with copies of the flier, and the registration form.

The ALR also needs to thank the members of our Post who purchased poker hands, above all we, with out exception, need to personally acknowledge and thank ‘Bear’, a.k.a. Jerry Jones.  Bear has consistently supported our efforts over the years.  I think it would be appropriate to ask our Web-mistress, if she could/would created a certificate of appreciation that we can present to Bear, at the Post meeting, a token of our appreciation of his contribution and support of the ALR activities.

Note: Support Our Troops flag was not auctioned off.  It will be auctioned off on Ebay.

Accompanying the flag will be a framed picture [by none other than Cat] of the troops who signed the flag.

The ALR of Post 251 will be presenting a check in the amount of $1000.00 to Bob Brown for the Legacy Fund.  Check will be given to Bob at the Post meeting on

11-August-09.

NOTE:    Bob and Martha Brown will be departing on 16-August-2009 for their first leg of the Legacy Fund Run.  We will be escorting Bob and Martha to Chattanooga , Tennessee .   We will meet at the Post at 0600 hours, with kick stands up at 0630 hours.  This is a rain or shine event.   Come with gas tanks full and ready to go.  The first and only stop will be at approximately the 100 mile mark, for gas.

Once we part company in Chattanooga , we will spend a few hours there, with the next stop being the National Cemetery in Canton , Ga.

Financial Report:   The figures given will be rounded to a dollar amount, example: if and item cost $10.25, it will be represented as $11, therefore no cents will be displayed.

1] Director, LoJack, will be attending MMI in Orlando , Florida .  Therefore he will be stepping down on 01-Jan-2010 [note this date may be moved up to September, if he can get an earlier enrollment at MMI].  The following changes in officer appointments, having been voted on and approved by a majority of members present; Airshow, [a.k.a. Jim Eubanks] will assume the position of Director, Sherry Curtis will be our new Sergeant at Arms.  Please note, while soft spoken she is a belt holder in Karate.

2] We have been given column space in the Post newsletter; articles will be written by, the Director.  Since the Commander and Adjutant, SAL, 40/8, and Ladies Aux officers have their pictures preceding their respective columns, would assume that our Director will do likewise.

3] For the 2010 Polar Bear Run, we will have embroidered patches [so to speak] made, which can be sewn below the original Polar Bear Patch.  Said patches will be designed to fit length wise of the original Polar Bear Patch, and approximately .75” in height.   More on this when cost etc., are compiled.

4] It was voted on and approved to produce 120 [minimum] pictures of the troops that signed the flag, and send the pictures to Alex [Son of Eric and Cat, currently in Kuwait ] and let him distribute the pictures to his fellow troopers that signed the flag.  There will be some extra pictures that will be put up for sale at the Post.

5] American Legion Riders flag: approved by a majority present, an American Legion Riders flag will be purchased and sent to Col. Hofman.   The flag will have sewn on the Charter Member and Georgia Post 251 rockers.  The rockers have been secured, and are being held by Richard Farnum, they have yet to be paid for.  The flag will be ordered from American Legion Emblem Sales.

Upcoming Events to Prepare For Volunteers will be needed:

1] Haunted House in October

2] Christmas Tree Sales in December.

 3] Polar Bear Ride, 01-January=2010

NOTE: Additional information and dates will be supplied as they become available.

Cheers,

Leonard
